Sinopsis

Novel petualangan dan drama cinta dengan kombinasi fiktif dan fakta tahun 1914 di hutan pedalaman Teluk Kao bagian Timur. Kisah cinta Karin, gadis Lingon yang cantik jelita primitif dengan Kalai, petarung Togutil, petualangan di hutan-hutan pedalaman sampai ke kampung pesisir.

Petualangan penuh bahaya di hutan belantara, Karin diburu para petarung, mereka ingin menikmati kecantikan gadis Lingon itu atau menjualnya ke kapal asing. Kalai melindungi meskipun harus membunuh banyak petarung. Kisah cinta pun bersemi.

Ketika Kalai dihadapkan tuduhan membunuh dan memerkosa wanita, dalam Borfakalak yakni pengadilan adat Karin tampil sebagai pembela. Ia membuktikan cintanya kepada pria Togutil itu murni bahkan ia mempertaruhkan nyawa.

Ikuti kisah cinta antara dua anak manusia primitif di pesisir Teluk Kao bagian Timur. “Cinta gadis Lingon ibarat anak panah tunggal yang melesat dari busur, tak akan pernah kembali ke busur. Cinta satu kali seumur hidup.” Kata Karin.

Novel petualangan dengan kombinasi fakta dan fiktif. Fakta keberadaan suku Lingon di kawasan Timur teluk Kao bisa dirujuk dari artikel Paul Spencer Sochaczewski di The New York Times rubrik Opinion   http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/12/opinion/12iht-edsoch_ed3_.html yang dipublish Jumat 12 Maret 2004, juga melalui : iht.com/Lingon dengan judul “meanwhile: In search of Indonesia’s Wild Lost White Tribe”.

Saya juga merilis artikel pengalaman menjelajah teluk Kao dan kawasan Halmahera Timur dalam artikel judul “Lingon, The Lost Indonesia’s Wild White Tribe” dalam versi English publish 15 Oktober 2008 alamat : johnhalmahera.com/umum/lingon.

Paul Spencer menulis pertemuannya di tahun 1993 dengan Albertus Paspalangi seorang nelayan asal pulau Bobale di Teluk Kao, sebagai asal mulanya mendengar suku terasing Togutil. Sepuluh tahun kemudian (2003) melalui desa Subaim, Paul masuk hutan pedalaman hingga batas sekitar 10 kilometer dari garis pantai.

Tujuannya menemukan suku Lingon, suku liar terasing Indonesia yang berkulit putih. Sayang, upayanya gagal. Tidak bertemu Lingon. Justru dia bertemu Pak Pisondoldo salah seorang kepala suku Togutil (lebih tepat kepala keluarga/semacam clan).

Dari sini dia mendengar lebih jelas adanya suku Lingon, kulit putih, tinggi,  mata biru dan rambut pirang. Hanya keterangannya bertentangan dengan cerita yang saya dengar.

Menurut Paul Spencer melalui Pisondoldo, Lingon adalah kanibalis. Menurut saya, tidak, Lingon bukan kanibalis. Mungkin maksudnya, suku Berebere, suku yang lebih minoritas, kulit hitam, tinggi lebih dari dua meter, pembunuh dan pemakan manusia.

      I’m interested in writing this article after reading Paul Spencer Sochaczweski article which published in Friday May 12th 2004 at iht.com/lingon with heading title “Meanwhile: In Search of Indonesia’s wild lost white tribe.”

       If Paul entered the remote area in 2003, I came more early than him. In May-April 1976, at the time I was 29 years old I met with Mr.Song C Choon, American citizen who born in Korea and lives in Hawai while that present time doing business in Jakarta. With service from my friend, Bram Ambarak (lamented), entrepreneur from Ternate who had HPH concession in west Halmahera.

      Song C Choon willing to buy HPH in remote area around Subaim, Dodaga and Gurua in East Halmahera. Our Mission at that present time was to calculated density of agathis wood  manually. If the density accomplishes the business calculating, then Song will buy the HPH.

Later on in Jakarta there’s job contract agreement, I work as a road guide and local language translator, to make a documentation about the density of agathis wood.

On that April, I along with Mr. Song C Choon go to Ternate. Meanwhile Song waited in Ternate, Me and my friend so called Don Al Hadar, prepare and arranging the plan, going to Lolobata village in Teluk Kao coast. In that village I met with one of respected men in that area. Name Ishak Ahdin, Head of Kampung Tua (former head of village), aged about 50 years old.

 “The journeys are full of risk,” he said. And he promised 8 of his bodyguard which is very well skilled and experienced in the jungle to escort my group. On the next day, I was asked to meet with the 8 bodyguards, part of them are Togutil men that already lived in coast village, and the other part are coast men that often be a road guide  to the jungle. 

Mr. Ishak Ahdin can’t go along with the group but he enclose his son Bungtomo, 25 years old, as my bodyguard. He also promised the safety of my life and group.

From Ishak Ahdin statement, that was the first time I heard the name of Lingon and Berebere also Togutil, three native tribe that still primitive and lived hiding in the middle of jungle. Two years before, in 1974, Ishak Ahdin along with some of people, escort 2 Swedish people, one of them are woman, entered the jungle till Gogolomo mountain looking for Lingon tribe. But they came home with empty hand. There’s a strong assumption that Lingon tribe came from Sweden/Scandinavia.  

After finished preparing in Lolobata, I came back to Ternate. And the next week me, Song C Choon and Usman Tjan delegate of forestry ministry Ambon that assign in Ternate especially North Maluku, heading to Lolobata.

Along with 8 bodyguards, we entered the jungle for 2 months. We aren’t always in the jungle, according to the journey route sometimes we go out and rested for one or two days in the village of coast Foli, Dodaga, Subaim, Gurua and Lolobata.

At the river of Subaim, I saw from just a few meters, 2 women with blue eyes and blonde hair, along with one man whom had yellow mixed with brown skin. According to stories, they lived in remote area (jungle) about 10 kilometers from the coast line. The husband are Togutil. The woman are  true Lingon. The young girl, their daughter, halfblooded Togutil-Lingon. But unfortunately they don’t want to meet with people, also don’t want to be visited at their home. 

My conclusion, Lingon tribe was existed. They are wild and lived far in the suburbs. They don’t socialize. They not cannibals. Their skin white, blonde hair, blue eyes, tall body, more taller than most of Togutil or coast people. 

In Dodaga, quite far from coast but still in coast area, I met an old man, Mr.Baim, aged about 80 years, it means that he was born in around the year 1895. From his physical gesture and body movement which is still fast and ageless, people will believe that his age about 60 years old. He was well known because when he was young (about 30 years old) as a skillfull fighter he killed a Berebere man. 

According to him, Lingon aren’t cannibals instead Berebere are the cannibals. Generally, Berebere walks alone, rarely gathering, they huge and tall about 2 meter, black skin, naked, and long hair. According to him again, that present time (in 1976) Berebere are hard to find. More likely almost extinct.

My Conclusion, Berebere was existed, this cannibals tribe in years 1976 almost extinct therefore possibly nowadays (in 2008 ) this tribe already extinct. The same thing also happen to fate, growth and population of Lingon tribe.

Among the three native tribes, Togutil have larger population. For many years there’s been war between tribes. Togutil which had greater number hunted Lingon, killed Lingon men, detained Lingon girls and marrying them, sold them to pesisir man (coast villager people).

When our group looking for agathis wood in Gogolomo mountain (not existed in general map) eventually we had to spend the night. Some of my bodyguard came to Togutil Hutan group of villages and borrowed their home for the night. Of course we gave to them cigarette, used shirt etc. At that time, I was face to face with one of the head of Togutil Hutan family named Nyik. From my first impression, Nyik had a small body but strong, his look are cold without expression and  his eyes are showing the desire to kill.My final conclusion. Berebere are cannibals tribe (possibly now in 2008 had already extinct). Lingon, white skin like European people, not cannibals and possibly now in 2008 already extinct too.

Togutil, very much like origin Dayak tribe, yellow and brown skin, nowadays (2008) are still scattered in Halmahera jungle. With Indonesian government program at period of president Soeharto, there are already many Togutil tribe that been talked to socialize and lived in the coast village.  

Berikut catatan penting lainnya :

Lingon, suku bangsa kulit putih, benar-benar eksis, populasi semakin sedikit, hidup terpencil di pedalaman Halmahera Timur. Mereka tersembunyi, menghindar dari buruan orang Togutil dan pesisir yang mengincar mengawini gadis-gadis Lingon yang cantik jelita ala wanita Eropa. Saya melihat sendiri gadis peranakan hasil kawin silang laki-laki Togutil dengan wanita Lingon. Kulit putih, tinggi langsing, mata biru, rambut pirang.

Berebere, manusia canibalis, masih eksis di awal 1900-an, populasi sangat kecil, mungkin di tahun 1990-an sudah punah. Konon tinggi besar, sekitar dua meter dengan berat seratus lima puluh kilo, hitam dekil, sosok yang menakutkan.

Togutil, sampai sekarang (2000-an) masih eksis dan menjadi penduduk asli Halmahera, sebagian masih memencil di pedalaman, sebagian sudah bersosialisasi dan beranak pinak di desa-desa di pesisir Teluk Kao.

Fakta dan Inspirasi :

Togutil, Lingon, Berebere, fakta adanya tiga suku liar ini seperti disebutkan dalam Pengantar menjadi sumber inspirasi yang penting dari novel ini.

Gurua, desa di Selatan laut Teluk Kao dan tetangga kampung Subaim, sekitar tahun 1900 sampai 1950-an masih eksis. Ketika saya kunjungi di tahun 1976, desa itu sudah menjadi hutan belantara, tiada lagi rumah. Di pantai Gurua, terdapat beberapa sumur air-tawar yang jika laut pasang akan terendam air laut namun ketika surut, sumur air tetap mengeluarkan air tawar.  

Ishak Ahdin, waktu itu berusia sekitar 50-an tahun (kira-kira lahir tahun 1926), eks  kepala kampung Hatetabako, disebut kapala kampung tua, menceritakan beragam ilmu berkelahi yang bahkan sulit dipercaya orang modern, menjadi inspirasi tokoh sousoulol Tutumoleo.

Baim, sejauh 20 kilo dari Dodaga, saya bertemu Baim, usia 80 tahun (lahir 1895) namun tampak seperti 60 tahun, tinggal bersama 3 isteri dan anak cucunya. Baim terkenal karena pada usia 30 tahun (sekitar itu) membunuh Berebere dalam tarung satu lawan satu di hutan. Dia memenggal kepala Berebere dan memajang di depan pintu rumahnya selama beberapa waktu. Dia menjadi inspirasi tarung Tutumole membunuh Berebere. Baim juga menceritakan ilmu boyemekgiyon. Kekuatan supernatural menebak nasib dan masa depan seseorang.

Watowato. Gunung yang menjadi mitos laki-laki petarung yang menjaga keamanan kawasan Halmahera Timur. Watowato artinya telanjang, ibarat seorang petarung yang sedang tidur istirahat, membujur dari Timur ke Barat, tengadah menghadap langit. Jika berlayar dari Lolobata menuju Gurua, di tengah laut sekitar perairan Subaim, Anda akan melihat gunung Watowato bagai manusia tidur, profil dari samping tampak lengkap, berurutan bentuk dahi, hidung, mulut, dagu, dada, tangan, perut, paha, betis dan ujung kaki yang mencuat ke langit.

Ternate, tahun 1970-an, pernah hidup dan terkenal seorang lelaki bernama Ibrahim Kuikui, menjadi legenda hidup karena kesanggupannya menghilang, wujudnya tidak terlihat oleh orang lain, menjadi inspirasi ilmu pampelemtou yang mungkin di abad sekarang ini masih dimiliki sedikit orang di Maluku Utara.

      Sejarah : Perang Rogulamo Jailolo atau dikenal juga dengan nama perang Tuada se Tudowongi terjadi di tahun 1914 di teluk Jailolo ketika warga Jailolo, Tudowongi, Tuada dipimpin Baba Banau berperang lawan pasukan Belanda yang semena-mena menjarah kekayaan alam serta menerapkan pajak tinggi terhadap warga.

Dan sejarah masuknya agama Islam di Maluku Utara.
